PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Teacher 2060 Introduction to Political Theory – Death in Politics; Louisiana State University; Spring 2020

  • The focus of the course was on how mortality and death manifest themselves in politics. Drawing on the classics, social contractarians, Marx, and postcolonial thought, the course centered itself around student discussion and critical textual analyses. Students’ focuses ranged from whose lives are seen as grievable to understanding what makes human lives human.

  • The class moved online during the COVID-19 outbreak. I researched multiple platforms to determine which one would be most effective for my students, through extensive meetings with my students, we collectively decided to utilize Discord as the class platform. I changed assignments to meet the change of platform while continuing to meet the objectives of the course.

Teacher 2060 Introduction to Political Theory – Ideology from Aristotle to the Postmoderns; Louisiana State University; Fall 2019

  • The course covered classical, modern, and contemporary political thought. The focus of the course was on ideology and forms of power. Moving from Aristotle, Hobbes, the and , the course culminated in Michel Foucault and Wendy Brown’s responses to formations of power. Focusing on Foucault’s critique of justice and society and Brown’s criticisms of neoliberalism, students were asked to thoughtfully engage with the texts’ conceptions of power and ideology.

LGBTQ+ Faculty and Staff Caucus Graduate Student Representative– Louisiana State University; 2019

  • Reported graduate students needs and concerns, and ways in which the Caucus could support them.

  • Chaired a committee overseeing the development of a LGBTQ+ Center on campus.

  • Developed a strategy to gather documented university support for the center and crafted supporting materials for the capital campaign, “Fierce for the Future.”

LGBTQ+ Project Coordinator – Office of Multicultural Affairs; Louisiana State University; 2017-2018

  • Advocated for university policy changes in regards to name changes on university documents for transgender students, as well as adoption of gender neutral signage for single-stall bathrooms throughout the Baton Rouge campus.

  • Coordinated Louisiana Queer Conference, the largest student run conference of its kind in the region.

  • Trained over 150 individuals through the Safe Space Training, instructing people on discrimination, current terminology and research, the coming out process, gender and sexuality spectrums, as well as national and local resources for the LGBTQ+ community.

  • Furthered programming for LGBTQ+ graduate students across the colleges.

  • Partnered with Faculty Senate and Student Government to pass measures on diversity and inclusion.

  • Worked with LSU’s Women’s Center and African American Cultural Center in planning and holding events for LGBTQ+ undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Mentored LGBTQ+ students and LSU’s three LGBTQ+ organizations.

  • Assisted in creating the Constitution for the LGBTQ+ Faculty and Staff Caucus.

Medic - Mutual Aid Street Medics; Far Rockaways, NY; 2012

  • Helped in the creation of a free emergency medical clinic after Hurricane Sandy.

  • Worked with governmental officials and local NGOs to advocate for inhabitants’ health needs.

  • Partnered with local community centers, religious centers, and community members to asses medical needs.

  • Assisted in bringing people who were housebound medications and professional care.

  • Organized longer term care infrastructures with New York State Nurses Association.
